Choosing a Linux Distro

I got my tax refund yesterday, and decided that it was finally time to get a new laptop. Well, a refurbished laptop at any rate. So now I’m trying to decide, do I want to return to nerdy roots and install Linux once it arrives? I’m leaning very heavily towards yes.

So the next question is, do I want to nuke Windows or dual boot? This laptop is going to have half a terabyte of storage, so I think I can share a dozen or so GB for Windows so that if I ever need to return to Linux, it’s easy to do. I’m thinking I’ll just shrink Windows down to just enough to hold all the files, and then install Linux on the rest of the partition. Should it come down to me needing to return to Windows, I can just divide the drive more evenly between the two OSes.

About Me

I am a Fyrnsidere (Anglo-Saxon Heathen) from the Midwestern USA. I already have a website dedicated to my religion though, so this website is going to cater to my other interests outside of Heathenry. These interests include:

  • Politics (left of center)
  • Tech (Markdown, JavaScript, Python, Linux, video games…)
  • Stoicism (and other philosophy related topics)

And probably more interests will be added as I go!

I am a bisexual man with two children who’s happily married. I’ve been on the left end of the political spectrum my entire adult life. I have never voted Republican, and I’m unlikely to ever vote Republican with the full on fascist transformation that party has embraced in recent years. However, living in a red city in a red state, my vote is always negated by the overwhelming number of morons I’m surrounded by. This is one of the many reasons that I oppose the electoral college.
