Test Driving CachyOS
In my search for a Linux distro, I happened across CachyOS. It seems to be getting a lot of hype right now. It’s an Arch Linux based distro that optimizes the software found in the arch repos which is supposed to lead to a more performant OS.
As I’m waiting on my new refurbished laptop to arrive, I decided to give CachyOS a test drive on my current laptop. I had some installation issues. For some reason, if there’s already an OS on the hard drive you’re trying to install CachyOS to, it fails to delete the partitions and create the new partition scheme. I had to use GParted to delete all the partitions first. It took me a few tries to realize this though. It was several frustrating hours.
Once it was installed, it didn’t feel any different to any other Linux distro I’ve run in the past. That is probably due to it being a fresh install and still having that “new car smell”, so to speak. Tonight, after I get off work, I’m planning to install some games and give it a go with playing games. Including logging in to Steam and downloading some of my games from there.
I’ll keep y’all updated. Until next time, stay nerdy!
